Honda-Backed Startup Developing “Ashirase,” a Smart Navigation System for the Visually Impaired, Raises ¥715 Million in Series A Round

Ashirase Inc., a startup born out of Honda Motor Co., Ltd.’s new business creation program IGNITION, is developing a shoe-integrated navigation system designed to assist the visually impaired with safe and intuitive walking.

The service, called “Ashirase,” enables users to set a walking route via a mobile app. A device installed inside the shoe vibrates to guide the user—vibrators located at the front of the foot activate for forward movement, while the ones on the right or left vibrate to signal upcoming turns. This intuitive feedback helps users understand their direction without constantly monitoring the route, thereby enhancing safety and reducing mental strain while walking.

In July 2025, Ashirase Inc. completed the first close of its Series A funding round, raising a total of ¥715 million($493 M) through a third-party allocation of shares to SBI Investment, Miraidoor, and Honda Motor Co., Ltd.

The newly raised funds will be used to strengthen operations for international expansion, secure relevant certifications, and further enhance the product to deliver an improved user experience.
